To The Mama-Student

Picture
To the Mama-Student

To the one packing her kids’ lunch boxes while skimming her own class schedule

To the one snapping and posting the first day of school pics, as she sits in her car waiting for her own first day of classes to begin

To the one who went back, when the kids were grown and gone, to pursue her own hibernating dream
To the one reading her textbook as she folds tiny T-shirts, princess jammies, and endless socks

To the one signing permission slips before tackling her homework

I see you today.

I see you as you give your lives away for your families and then load up your own backpack for class.

I see you as you navigate campus with 18-year-olds brushing by you

I see you as you rush home to get dinner on the table and kids to practice before cracking that new textbook

I see you and I am so proud

I am proud of your courage to enroll after all this time

I am proud of your dedication to your family and to your own development

I am proud of your commitment to the dream God has given you for your vocation

And thank you

Thank you for working so hard

Thank you for choosing the difficult path of growth

Thank you for showing your babies what mama is made of

Thank you for reminding us that there is always time, always space, always room to grow

I love you

Oh I've been through all of this. Going back to school with kids is so hard and yet worth every sacrifice IMHO. Thank you for noticing and encouraging mama-students.

I am glad it was meaningful to you, Erika! I agree, totally worth it, but a challenging road no doubt.
